Monastery of San Francisco

It was built between 1508 and 1560, under the mandate of Governor Nicolás de Ovando, with the arrival of the Franciscan friars. It is considered the first monastery of the New World. The main church, begun by Liendo in 1544, was completed on July 23, 1556.

Today, the ruins serve as a dramatic backdrop for concerts and live performances.
